Last night legendary rapper, Snoop Dogg
(aka Snoop Lion, Snoopzilla, Snoop-something, etc), hit up the Palace
Theatre in Melbourne treating rap and hip-hop fans with a brilliant set
of smash hits and old school classics.Check out the photos from the Snoop Dogg Big Day Out Sideshow in Melbourne!
The supporting act, Mac Miller, an American rapper from Pittsburgh and self-proclaimed ‘professional organ player’, kicked the night off with his 45-minute set performing his (really short) hits, and had the crowd ready and pumped for the main man, Snoop.
As the night carried on, an interesting herbal scent made its way into the air, permeating through the audience, who were getting loose, and just high... on life. And while we’re discussing the audience, since when are bucket hats in? Did we miss something here because everyone was wearing them!
But moving on.
It was finally Snoop time and in true Snoop style, he was fashionably late – not too late but late enough to get the crowd antsy and uber excited. His band and posse came onstage and were welcomed by the screams of eager fans. They kicked off with a couple of track sans Snoop before the main man came onstage. The standard response ensued - hands were in the air, people were screaming, whistling, and just making noise.
He started his set with a Snoop Lion track, and people were getting into it. Personally, we preferred more Dogg than Lion, and thankfully, our prayers were answered. Snoop performed his classic tracks and club smash hits, and the floor was pumpin’! The audience were busting their hottest moves in the mysterious cloud of smoke (pretty sure there was no smoke machine…) and were obviously having fun.
Snoop Dogg, his posse and band sounded great - Take 40 approves any hip-hop show with a proper band. His presence was on point, and his set list was pretty darn awesome for those who love his smash hits and old classics. In short, it was a fun and great sideshow from good ol’ Snoop Dogg.
